Teresa Macedo Ferreira began her musical studies at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga, where she studied with Dírio Alves. She graduated with First Class Honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying with Duncan Ferguson, and in 2024 completed the Guildhall Artist Masters with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, under the guidance of German Clavijo and Matthew Jones. She currently studies with Razvan Popovici, who was also her teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2024-25.
In 2026, Teresa gave her solo recital debut at the Casa da Música Porto and participated in internationally acclaimed festivals including Prussia Cove, the Sonoro Festival, and the Rencontres Musicales au Château d'Œx. She will make her solo concerto debuts with the Metropolitana Orchestra and the Braga Philharmonic Orchestra, and will give recitals in Lisbon, Paris, and London.
Teresa won First Prize in the Viola – Superior Level category at the Prémio Jovens Músicos 2025, was awarded the Portuguese Young Musician of the Year 2025 / Prémio Maestro Silva Pereira, the Prémio do Círculo Richard Wagner, and the Auer-von-Welsbach-Preis. She also made her concerto solo debut with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and served as Guest Principal of the Ulster Orchestra from May to December 2025.
She was an Academy musician of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2023-24) and the London Symphony Orchestra (2022-23), and is a regular guest musician with the Casa da Música Orchestra. Teresa also plays in jazz guitarist and award-winning composer Billy Marrows’ 12-piece chamber-jazz ensemble Grande Família. Their debut album Penelope was shortlisted for Album of the Year in the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
During her undergraduate studies, she was awarded First Prize at the Watson Forbes Viola Competition (2021) and Second Prize at the Mable Glover Competition (2020), and collaborated with the Scottish Ensemble and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
